James Gillespie Graham was a Scottish architect, prominent in the early 19th century. It prepares pupils mainly for Common Entrance Examinations or Academic Scholarships required for entry to public schools. It is the sister school of the all-boys Stewart's Melville College (SMC) with which MES shares a coeducational nursery and junior school for pupils aged 3–11. His career started in 1805 and he was appointed as the official city architect of Aberdeen in 1807, the first person to hold this post. Nothing now remains on the site, which is situated in a forest.
