Found this site out of curiousity. If it’s sights and marvels you want I’d say there’s enough to see in Tirana for a couple of days. Big chaos, but as it was already mentioned here, that is one of the things that certainly keeps it from ever becoming boring :). Eastern Europe and the Balkans are not very pedestrian friendly in general, but Tirana is in a league of its own so keep that in mind and more importantly, BE CAREFUL.
XOX Caterina, I would love to visit Iasi, but unfortunately haven’t made it up that far north in Romania yet – it’s definitely on my list! People from Shkoder speak Shqip as does every town/city/village in Albania. If one day you’ll go back to Albania visit those places i mentioned.. Larissa thank you for your time i mean for writing all these impressions about the land of eagles . Thanks, Elson. I’d love to connect with you on facebook/instagram! I hope you find it quite intruing as I do . And I have no reason to be nice to someone as offensive as you. Thanks for the wonderful photos! They use it as the Italian “Ciao” now to sound cool. Eat very caloric food and after you drink that water, than you feel great. Oh, absolutely. Robert DeNiro is NOT Albanian and neither was George Washington nor was Paul Walker. It can be frustrating when a place lacks the transit infrastructure to explore it more. I sort of fell in love with Gjirokaster too even though I was only there a couple of hours and I cannot wait to return this summer. Sorry to hear that, but unfortunately that is your problem. I haven’t visited Kosovo much, but it’s also very very beautiful. Probably accurate on first impressions. You really never know what you are going to get which should be like music to any modern-day explorers’ ears and why I suggest everyone interested in traveling to less touristed parts of Europe put it at the very top of their list. I did read that somewhere..not sure either what that is all about but probably good to have mentioned here. People started to migrate in the nearest countries to the Albanian border such as Italy and Greece. A week would be plenty to see the south and perhaps the capital, but if you really want to “see it all in a country”, then I’d go for two. Before or after high season (so not at all in July or August). Also, car theft is very prominent.
I am not going to describe the beautiful of my country,(most of them you wrote) ,you find out by yourself. Thanks for the info! First when u talk, check ur hole behinde u and clean it. It’s different.
I don’t know if you’ve ever had the chance to hear about the news of a whole village being destroyed by an explosive chain reaction more than 5 years ago because of more than 300 tonnes of forgotten explosives were triggered which were installed during the time of communism. Ok, it’s not Paris or London, but Tirana was definitely the city where I found the best shopping in the region. Hi, If a week is plenty for Albania, then I might look at 1 week in Albania and 1 week either in Northern Greece or Macedonia. Is being bilingual a skill, or you are born with that superpower? I also didn’t want to take the chances with my flight out the next day, so just didn’t go.
It’s definitely made me want to visit Albania myself.
I am proud for these words and that my country is known. Live in Albania, and when I say live, I mean to live by understanding the culture but especially the beauty of this country such as; the sea, the mountains, the fields and everything that you probably dreamed. Make sure to try as many dishes as you can while you’re here, but start your culinary experience with Fëgesë (a slow cooked stew made of peppers, onions, spices, tomatoes and cottage cheese), Tavë Kosi (lamb and rice baked with yogurt and eggs), Byrek (flaky phyllo dough stuffed with savory fillings), Speca me Gjize (peppers in cottage cheese), Baklava (a sweet layered pastry covered in syrup) and Trilece (three milk cake).
