If you plan to hardwire a Ring Doorbell (or install a battery operated Ring unit) in place of your old intercom speaker, select a cover that will fully cover your old box and has the center cut out. Use your other fingers as support, placing them on the middle of the plate. When you hear a click sound, the faceplate should be properly in place. If your box is different, or you are removing a fire alarm, emergency call box, or another brand of speaker, please send us a photos of the unit and the box along with dimensions and the center-to-center screw spacing.

Position the straps as shown to either increase or decrease the box's screw spread by 1". Do I need to know the brand and model of my old doorbell? Unit does not sit flush mount with wall's surface - it sticks out. The image here shows one Ring doorbell bracket model, which requires that 4 holes be drilled (either into the side of your house, or into the cover plate if covering up a larger hole for an old intercom speaker). Note that the mounting strap is not included.
How much the unit sticks out depends on the specific doorbell model. Align the faceplate with the base and snap it back on. Find the solution for covering an old doorbell that you no longer use, or get a wall plate to update your old intercom system to modern doorbell technology. If the box is recessed in brick or another surface, check the clearance to ensure the brick won't interfere with the new cover. Place the battery in its slot. Make sure to allow enough room for the doorbell unit and bracket, as well as note that the cover has 5/32" deep beveled edges. Setup Ring Elite in the Ring App. Here’s a brief, step-by-step tutorial to follow in order to remove your Ring Doorbell faceplate: First, you need to unscrew the safety screw at the bottom of the Ring Doorbell faceplate. Tips for replacing the faceplate with a new one, or placing the same faceplate back on, are featured below. Angle the straps to adjust more or less than 1" if trying to match another dimension. If you are installing your Ring doorbell with an angle mount kit, select a surface-mount cover based on whether the Ring will be used wirelessly or hard-wired in. This allows our 4.5" spaced plates to attach to a box with a 5.5" or 3.5" screw spread. Video doorbell covers feature wallplates with or without openings for hard-wired doorbells. That said, your Ring Doorbell’s faceplate can often get damaged. When replacing an intercom speaker with a video doorbell, you will most likely have a much larger opening on the side of your house than is required for the smart doorbell. In case your original faceplate was damaged, contact Ring support and inquire about getting a new one. Do you have covers predrilled for my new doorbell's mounting brackets? Do that at a 45-degree angle, and snap the faceplate back on the base. With so many brands of doorbells (Ring, SkyBell, August, Nest, Zmodo, Wisenet, etc.)
