If you are on your own or a couple I'd say centre of town or linlithgow bridge are best, a bit more sociable.
There are lots of nice wee towns and villages around the Lanark area, many of the bypassed by the M74 so lots of commuters. I'd take out Paisley from your good list and replace it with Erskine.
