I can see why, probably having migraines on set from dealing with MGM, being a massive flop in the US, but it's really a shame.
It is a brilliant Hitchcockian style thriller with exciting twists and interesting relationships and characters that develop as the film does. Louis Mahe is a tobacco planter at Reunion Island. His influence is pervasive from the opening shot of Louis driving on the coastline that would fit neatly into Vertigo to Antoine Duhamel's striking Herrmann-esque score to the conspicuous maguffin shots of…. 1969
